Ron Perlman



Ronald Perlman was born on April 13, 1950 and grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, New York, and attended George Washington High School. His first theatrical performance during this time was “Thieves’ Carnival,” in which he played the lead role. He also acted in works by Arthur Miller and Rogers and Hammerstein.

After graduating from Lehman College in New York City in 1971 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre, Ron went on to study at the University of Minnesota from the fall of 1971 to the spring of 1973.  He is quoted as saying that he chose this particular university so that he would be based near the famous Guthrie Theatre.  He graduated on July 20, 1973, with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre. 

During his time in Minnesota Ron performed in many productions including “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” by William Shakespeare in which he played the lead role of Valentine.  He later reprised this role in his professional career under the direction of David Feldshuh. 

Ron married fashion designer, Opal Stone, on February 14, 1981, and the couple have a daughter, Blake Amanda, born January 7, 1984, and a son, Brandon Avery, born March 29, 1990. They now live in Los Angeles, California, but also keep a home in New York City.

Ron Perlman won a Golden Apple Award for Male Discovery of the Year (1988), a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Dramatic TV series (1989), and two Best Actor Awards from Viewers for Quality Television (1988 &1989).

He received two Emmy nominations for Best Actor in a Drama series (1988 & 1989), a nomination for Best Dramatic Actor at the Saturn Awards (1989), and a nomination for Favourite New Performer in a new television show from People's Choice Awards (1988). These were all for his role as Vincent in the TV series "Beauty and the Beast" (1987- 1990).
